Continuous Evolution of the British Art Summer Internship Program

Associate Professor Ming Turner has made it a tradition to bring NCKU students to the UK for an art internship via the Ministry of Education’s Overseas Internship Program. This year, the internship was with the Fearon Community Association in Loughborough, England. For five weeks, three ICID and Master Program on Techno Art students got to experience the natural process of art creation, and felt the pure emotions and joy of art in a new place.

In the stimulating new environment, the students engaged in artistic and cultural exchanges. Through the local British artists, the students observed selfless dedication and open-mindedness. During hands-on outdoor classes and indoor art creation, the students deeply felt the cultural influence of different educational systems and art education. These moments blurred discipline boundaries and inspired them to understand and redefine themselves. Most students said the internship was an art therapy journey that helped them to rebuild and rediscover themselves.

This year’s art internship focused on the 800-year-old historical landmark, The Old Rectory, and compared it with the upcoming 400-year anniversary of Tainan. The students worked with the artists to create a multi-sensory experience using digital technology, textiles, sound, and performance. The collaborative works will be exhibited in Tainan and The Old Rectory in September.
