New Adjunct Lecturer, CEO Cheng-Yi Lin, Will Teach Ritual Design Course

This year, ICID’s first ever Adjunct Lecturer, Cheng-Yi Lin, was officially appointed. Well known in the field of regional revitalization, he has worked on several government projects. Cheng-Yi Lin is the CEO of Hayashi Office, a design consulting firm, and has published several books. He also has experience in social design, ritual design, and user experience design.

Over the past three years, Cheng-Yi Lin has participated in several industry–academia collaborations at NCKU and ICID. In the 2020 academic year, he was a College of Planning and Design Talk guest speaker. In 2021, he was the mentor of a placemaking project group during a two-day workshop in the co-creation course “Design Thinking III”. In 2022, he served as an expert on place branding for a Brand & Marketing Planning (Group A) required course. Interactions with students and faculty like these have formed the basis for long-term cooperation.

This semester, Cheng-Yi Lin will teach a “Ritual Design Research” course. His expertise in regional revitalization and place branding will be showcased in this course. It is also the first time ICID or the College of Planning and Design has offered this course, at the intersection of design, management, and culture. The course design features new teaching methods that focus on user experience and the meaning of rituals. It also includes team workshops for dynamic co-creation. Altogether, the course is highly anticipated and will take place in an intensive form November–December.
