Professor Liou Presents City Design Power Index at World Design Assembly

After being jointly appointed to Taiwan Design Research Institute (TDRI) as Vice President of Research and Development in 2022, Professor Liou immediately began to lead the TDRI R&D team in various projects related to design innovation. At this year’s biennial World Design Assembly held by the World Design Organization (WDO) in Tokyo, Japan, he presented the results of their research quantifying the design power of a city. This model includes indicators connecting a city’s design strategies to its impact, including economic competitiveness, social happiness, and environmental sustainability. With this publication, each city can measure their design power development, define direction for city branding, and draw up strategies to increase design power.

During the assembly, TDRI also for the first time received the WDO President’s Award, which commends contributions to the WDO and international design community. Selected amidst 20 competing global members, TDRI was unanimously recognized by all directors, bringing honor to the design industry, academia, and research in Taiwan.
