Computational Media

Author|Associate Professor Yen-Ting Cho

Course | Computational Media

“Computational Media” lectured by Prof. Yen-Ting Cho is designed to provide an experimental environment in which students can combine theory and practice to creative media design. In the course, design studies and one-on-one project discussions were added to allow students to think about areas of interest and create more sparks in combination with the program, and to further apply in the field of creative digital design. Students are expected to build projects from user’s experience and make programs based on tools given in class. Students can think about their design decisions through repeated processes and get better results in the next round of experiments. Every week, Prof. Cho teaches students the ideas and skills of program writing step by step. From the basic logic of declaring variables, statements, loops, etc., to design your own characters to make the first animation.

In the middle of the semester, students are asked to explore areas or topics of interest. Through one to one discussion can understand the needs and ideas of students and provide feasible suggestions. From exploring life to caring about the environment, each project has more depth than before. In the Hackathon, industry mentor – Yen-Ting, Yeh invited to teach students use Unified Modeling Language (UML) to make their programs more logical and provide students with professional and specific program writing advices.
