Clothes Swap Station! Rebirth of Old Clothes!

Swap Station event was created and organized by NCKU ICID team: Travis, Marcus, Joey, Alexandra. Participants provide their own 2nd hand clothing, which they then swap and repair at Swap Station.

Through participating in the activities of Swap Station, people can better realize the implications of the 3S issues: Style, Social, & Sustainability. On May 10, 2019 at C-Hub, Swap Station received an overwhelmingly positive feedback from both teachers and participants. Many foreign students also expressed their delight in able to join in on the activities of Swap Station.

A total of over 60 participants joined in on Swap Station event. Our team has categorized 2nd hand clothing styles into four different themes, including: Forest, Air, Volcano and Ocean. Throughout the event, 120 pieces of clothing(items) were displayed, more than 80 pieces of clothing(items) were swapped, and after the event ended, over 20 pieces of clothing(items) were given away to “The Garden of Hope Foundation”.

The motive of creating Swap Station: The fashion industry is listed as the second largest polluting industry in the world, second only to the petroleum industry. There are many environmental and social costs hidden behind the glamour and flair of the fast fashion industry — The production of 1 kg of cotton requires up to 20,000 liters of water. Also, making a piece of clothing (from dyeing to final treatment), may use up to 8,000 different kinds of harmful chemicals… this does not count in the waste and pollution caused by the unsold clothes, as well as the labor exploitation and child labor in the underlying production chains.

Therefore, our goal is to promote environmental awareness by establishing a brand of second-hand clothing exchange market, and to enable everyone involved in the station to save the planet through the exchange of clothing.
